On 2/19/22 at approximately 11AM a northbound Dodge Challenger on US Highway 101 in Newport, failed to yield to a Newport Police patrol vehicle with emergency lights. State police trooper Severson also attempted to stop the driver of the Dodge however the driver failed to yield for approximately one mile. He then stopped at the Chevron gas station near NW 15th Street.
The driver, later identified as 42-year old Joshua H. Barlow refused to comply to commands to exit the vehicle. He displayed signs of impairment and resisted arrest but was ultimately taken into custody. Barlow was evaluated at Samaritan Pacific Communities hospital and cleared for jail. He was lodged at Lincoln County Jail and charged with DUI for controlled substances, resisting arrest, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and disorderly conduct. Newport PD and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
