On 6/12/21 at approximately 2:27 pm Sgt Wertz responded to a two car collision which occurred on hwy 20 near mile post 25. Investigation showed the driver of a green Geo Tracker, 22-year old Shane D. Marks was eastbound and negotiating a curve when the front driver side wheel came detached and rolled into the westbound lane. The driver of a white Ford F250 hauling a 16 foot flatbed trailer was westbound when it was struck in the front passenger side bumper by the detached wheel.
The Ford swerved and crashed into a concrete bridge abutment, flattening both passenger side tires and bending the axles of the trailer. The truck came to an uncontrolled rest on the westbound shoulder. No one was injured in the crash. During the crash investigation Marks reported he had just purchased the Geo in Newport and was driving it home to the valley. He stated he believed the front tire had no lug nuts and this is how it became detached.
