High Speed Chase Leads To Arrest

ree

On Tuesday September 30th, at approximately 7:25 in the morning, a Lincoln City Police (LCP) Officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a residential neighborhood. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Myles Russel Peterson, of Salem Oregon, had reportedly set a small fire with a bottle of rubbing alcohol along the curb. When the LCP Officer neared the area, Peterson drove off and turned onto Highway 101, nearly crashing with another vehicle as he did so.

The LCP Officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the driver who then began dangerously weaving through traffic, including into the oncoming lane. As Peterson surpassed 100 miles per-hour in a matter of several blocks, the LCP Officer chose to terminate the pursuit in the interest of public safety. He passed on the vehicle information and direction of travel to the surrounding law enforcement agencies.

A short time later an Oregon State Police Trooper spotted the vehicle in the area of Depoe Bay and coordinated with Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputies to stop the vehicle. Sheriff's Deputies were able to intercept the suspect vehicle on the south side of Cape Foul Weather while the Trooper followed at a distance. However, as the Sheriff's Deputy turned on the lights in an attempte to stop the car the driver eluded. Unbeknownst to Peterson Officers already had the highway shut down and tire spike strips covering the highway at the spencer creek bridge.

Upon seeing the other officers and spike strips on the road Peterson immediately stopped the car and attempted to flee west on foot. Officers caught up with him and were able to detain him without physical force and LCPD met us at the scene to take custody. On October 2nd 2025, a Lincoln County Grand Jury issued a True Bill Indictment against Peterson for multiple charges related to the incident.
