State Police Respond To Crashes

On 05/17/2023 at approximately 3:30, a call came in about a trailer hitch in the middle of

the road on Hwy 101 on cape foulweather. It was reported that a blue Chevrolet Corvette had struck the hitch and had sustained unknown damage to the underside and engine. The driver arranged for a tow and within a half hour as police arrived on scene another vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla had struck the trailer hitch and had popped two tires. Neither driver was uninjured.


On 5/19/2023 at 1:47 am State Police Trooper Nathman and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash south of Depoe Bay. The crash occurred when, for unknown reasons, a 75-year old Portland woman left the roadway and drove approximately 40-50 feet into heavy brush off of the highway. The driver and sole occupant was extricated with the help of Oregon State Police, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Depoe Bay Fire. The driver complained of soreness and was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.


On 05/16/23 at approximately 2:17 PM, a three-vehicle rear-ender crash occurred on US-101 north of Newport. State Police Trooper Tucker arrived on scene and his Investigation showed the driver of a white Tacoma and a white Murano were stopped in the northbound lane with the driver of the Murano trying to turn left into Moolack Beach wayside. The drver of a black Santa Fe, identified as 19-year old Larissa McKnight of Kapaa Hawaii crashed into the Tacoma which then crashed into the Murano. No injuries were reported. McKnight was cted for Careless Driving-Accident and Driving Uninsured.
