The Toledo Public Library is celebrating National Model Train Month, with some
generous help from the Yaquina Pacific Railroad Historical Society (YPRHS). Library
visitors will find displays of model trains and scenery of various scales throughout the
library. These displays, on loan from YPRHS, include several models of local interest. In the
section of the library dedicated to Oregon history, eagle-eyed visitors may notice a
geared locomotive of the type used for hauling logs at the turn of the 20th century.
Perhaps the most striking new arrival to the library is the 7.5”-gauge “Silverado
Railway,” which comprises a propane locomotive, tender and boxcar built by Curtis
Silver. This train, measuring 12 feet in length, is on long-term loan to the library, having
previously been housed at the Toledo History Center. Bring your littles to a special train themed Story Time on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:30 am. For more information, contact the Toledo Public Library at (541)336-3132. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
